The First Computer Bug Was a Real Insect

When people say “computer bug,” they’re usually talking about a coding error.

But the first real computer bug was actually… a moth. 🪰

In 1947, engineers working on an early computer called the Harvard Mark II found it had stopped working. When they opened the machine, they discovered a dead moth stuck between circuits — literally causing the malfunction. They taped it into their logbook with the note: “First actual case of bug being found.”

💡 Tad Daily Tip:

Next time your phone or laptop glitches, remember — How the name came to be. 🐝
